Talus Hume and Brett Berndt scored a goal and an assist each, and Dustin Ponath added a goal in the Bow Valley Timberwolves’ 6-3 loss to the visiting Calgary Bruins in South Central Alberta Hockey League Midget AA play Feb. 9 at Spray Lake Sawmills Family Sports Centre. Kurtis Shugg faced 33 shots in the Timberwolves’ net.
In provincial qualifying play, the Midget T-wolves lost 6-2 in the opening game of a two-game, total-goals series against Strathmore.
In Bantam action, the Timberwolves dropped a 6-3 decision Feb. 9 to the visiting Okotoks Oilers. Brandon Aab scored twice and Jamie Rome had a goal and an assist for Bow Valley. Kyle Gordon added a pair of assists. The Timberwolves were also eliminated from Bantam AA provincial qualifying play, losing their two-game, total-goals series against Strathmore by three goals.
The Peewee T-wolves, meanwhile, have been on a tear, blanking the Taber Golden Suns 7-0 in Taber Feb. 10 after defeating the visiting Badlands Longhorns 14-1 Feb. 9.
Seth Fyten scored twice for the T-Wolves in Taber, with Tanner Sawka, Connor Bouchard, Ethan Strang, Keenan McElroy and Jacob Bernard-Docker collecting singles. Austen Wong had five goals and two assists for Bow Valley in the 14-1 win over Badlands. Strang had two goals and four assists. Scott Shugg and Fyten scored twice with Landen Leipnitz, McElroy and Bernard-Docker adding singles.
