“I hope my opponents will remember our fight,” Peacock said. “I don’t plan on giving them an easy winner or anything like that – I’m going to go as hard as I can.”

It was a whirlwind August long weekend for Cochrane rugby player Taia Graham, who was competing for Alberta at the 2023 U16 Western Canadian Championships.

“It kind of shows the depth of these two age groups in Rocky View, which is nice to see,” Barley said.

“It’s a tough lesson to learn. Being a young team, the post-season is definitely a different beast in itself. However, we’re very pleased with our group and the season that was.”

Riders from across the country and around the world braved eight seconds of battle against a bucking bull at the Cochrane Classic Bull Riding at the Cochrane and District Ag Society on July 29.

According to the 2023 Alberta Summer Games’ athlete database, 62 athletes competing in this year’s games called Cochrane their hometown.

“They just keep putting the work in and the results are showing on the pitch. You can’t really ask for anything more than that.”

The Bow Valley Rugby Club's U16 and U18 girls' squads featured in a double-header at Mitford Park last Friday, taking on teams from Calgary in back-to-back encounters.

Johnson said the competition is truly heating up for the Piranhas as they prepare for regionals, which is followed by provincials in August.

“It is a big statement for our group and it just shows we’re finally getting the attention we deserve,” said Stainthorpe. “People are finally starting to talk about our team as one of the powerhouses of the league.”
