It was a banner weekend for the Cochrane High School boys basketball teams, as the senior boys won the Bowness Trojan Classic Feb. 9 in Calgary for the first time in the tournament’s 32-year history.

A much-needed 8-1 home win over the short-staffed Ponoka Stampeders on Feb. 2 was just what the Cochrane Generals needed to bolster their quest for the fifth and final playoff spot as the Heritage Junior Hockey League regular season winds down.

When they’re not occupied trying to hammer down a playoff spot in the Heritage Junior Hockey League, Cochrane Generals players can be found teaching hockey to entry-level kids every Monday night at Spray Lake Sawmills Family Sports Centre.

Defenceman Nick Borody scored a pair of goals and Tyson Soloski added a single in the Cochrane Generals’ 5-3 Heritage Junior Hockey League (HJHL) loss to the visiting Medicine Hat Cubs Jan. 26 at Spray Lake Sawmills Family Sports Centre.

You can be forgiven if you’re seeing double at Cochrane High School Cobras basketball games. Or triple, or quintuple, etc.

The Cochrane Generals are closer to securing a Heritage Junior Hockey League playoff spot following a stirring 4-3 overtime win over the league-leading Okotoks Bisons Jan. 19 at Spray Lake Sawmills Family Sports Centre.
