School’s out, and Cochrane’s Riley Boothby wants to take what he’s learned to the bank. The former Cochrane Generals sniper is now shooting for the greens on the Professional Golfers’ Association of Alberta Tour.

Cochrane steer-wrestler Tanner Milan is rounding into form with the meat of the season straight ahead. Milan took home just over $7,000 for winning the Daines Ranch Rodeo June 16 in Innisfail. Not bad for 4.1 seconds of work.

Cochrane’s Calum Neff and Canmore’s Sara Hewitt pushed the pace to claim gold on a tough 5 Peaks trail running race June 8 at the Canmore Nordic Centre. The 500-plus runners were greeted with dry trails and sunny skies for a knee-pounding day.

Cochrane is sending two doubles tennis teams to the provincial 55-plus Summer Games next month in Barrhead and Westlock.

Taylor McElroy and Annie Morrison have both been selected to play for Team Alberta at the lacrosse national tournament in Halifax next month.

Bragg Creek’s Logan Brennan is headed to the University of Winnipeg in the fall to play volleyball. The 18-year-old Springbank Community High School grad started playing in Grade 6 at Banded Peak School.

Four-sport athlete Kyle Moortgat was named Cochrane High School Cobras varsity male athlete of the year at the school’s athletic awards ceremony June 14 at the school.

Bow Valley High School Bobcats’ Cole Lethebe won gold in the intermediate boy’s triple-jump event at the Alberta Schools Athletic Association provincial track meet June 8 at Foothills Athletic Park in Calgary.

This was supposed to be a rebuilding season, but at the end of the day the Cochrane High Cobras still found a way to out-play their competition.

It wasn’t the way team manager Gary Moore wanted it to end, but the silver lining is a silver medal.
