EDITORIAL: The Eagle soars

From May 11 onward, our website will once again be called CochraneEagle.ca, and so will our social media channels.

Long-time readers of The Cochrane Eagle will recall that in the summer of 2019, we updated our online presence with a revamped website called CochraneTODAY.ca.

The online rebrand – part of a company-wide effort across the entire Great West Media network – was intended to reflect the newspaper's increasingly digitalized identity. While our print paper would continue to come out on Thursdays, readers could be assured the stories and photos that appeared on our website would be produced and updated in real time.

The change was undoubtedly successful, in the sense that our online and social media reach has increased dramatically since 2019 – we've greatly improved our online readership since then, and our social media channels have a wider audience than ever before.

However, an unintended consequence of having separate print and online identities in the last four years has been the occasional moment of confusion among readers who were unaware that 'CochraneTODAY' and The Cochrane Eagle were one and the same. Sometimes readers figured these two news outlets were separate entities.

The confusion occasionally extended to our newsroom, as well. Sometimes we would say 'Cochrane Eagle,' when answering the phone or telling a source which outlet we were with, whereas other times we would refer to ourselves as CochraneTODAY.ca.

Thus, we and the rest of the Great West Media network recently decided to revert back to our traditional names for our websites and social media chanels. From May 1 onward, our website is once again called Cochraneeagle.com, and so are our social media channels.

In making this change, we hope to erase those odd moments of ambiguity and the occasional lengthy explanation of who we are and what we do.

The Cochrane Eagle has been around for more than 21 years now, and we are excited to continue serving Cochrane and area residents with the stories and journalism that matter to you – both in print and online. And we're happy to do that under this name in both platforms once again.
