Thanks for your feedback!

On behalf of all of town council, our sincere thanks to everyone for sharing your views, thoughts and suggestions for the aquatic centre and curling rink.

We heard from you at a number of locations and in many ways: Feb. 28, Coffee with the Mayor, the opportunities to see the design boards on display at Spray Lake Sawmills Family Sports Centre (SLSFSC) and other locations around town, as well as your many phone calls and emails.

Sincere thanks to SLSFSC for welcoming us and giving us opportunities to meet with residents.

The feedback we gathered in person, as well as by phone and email, were also shared with the staff working on this project.

These conversations and feedback were the final stage of the public engagement process for input into the designs. The town is now poised to launch the fundraising campaign in April.

In the 2012 Budget, council approved $3 million from the town’s MSI grants to be used towards the design work.

To complete the design development, approximately $1 million of this funding has been used.

This week, town council approved using the remaining $2 million to get the aquatic centre and curling rink project tender-ready.

This next step allows project design to continue and will allow the town to meet the timeline set out by council: the project will be ready for tender in the fall of 2014 with construction ready to start in the spring of 2015.

This also means the town can apply for provincial and federal grant dollars for this project.

What the community will see first though, is the launch of an exciting fundraising campaign this April.

We can’t say much about the fundraising campaign at the moment, except that there will be many ways for individuals, families, groups, clubs, organizations and businesses to get involved.

Next coffee: The next Coffee with the Mayor will take place in April.

Check this column in April for more details.
