Letter to the Editor: Comment on Nurse Practitioner Article

LETTERS

I have followed with interest the proposal by the Ministry of Health to augment primary care delivery in our province. I also note your article on local Nurse Practitioner’s decision to not participate in the proposed option (May 2 edtion of The Eagle) primarily because of inadequate proposed renumeration (The cost of running the business is not likely to be adequately funded by the proposed renumeration)

In my opinion, it would be a better scenario to somehow integrate the skill set of the nurse practitioner into the offices of already established primary care professionals (i.e. family doctors) as compared to expecting the nurse practitioners to set up their own offices. (In my opinion team based health care delivery is the better option).
