This week’s and next’s guest columns are my Father’s Day treats from our two sons, James and Reg. Toronto writer/editor/photographer James Harbeck and his wife Aina just spent a week with us in Cochrane.

Whenever Joan MacRae views a sunset from her deck on P.E.I., she recalls a poem that sees beyond the fading glow to the hope beyond. I was originally intending to run her story last week, but Jack Tennant’s death delayed her story till this week.

It is hard to believe it has been just over seven months since we were elected.

The Fox clan and the Stoney Nakoda community paid their last respects to Fox family patriarch Wilfred Fox on May 12. The eldest son of Joe Fox and Nancy Twoyougmen, Adeden (uncle) Wilfred was a cowboy, rancher, politician and social worker.

It hangs prominently in my home office, Jack Tennant ’s constant photographic reminder of the value of legacy.

While the Town ponders where to allow pot dealers to set up shop, consider this. Children and adults looking for illegal drugs have always found them. As long as there is money to be made, there will be those willing to provide them.

Jack Tennant was a newspaper man. Hard nosed, grizzled, passionate and dedicated to the principles of truth and justice, he was the persona every intrepid beat reporter or brash editor from the silver screen was based.
