On April 23 around 7 p.m., residents of Ghost Lake Village near Cochrane identified a suspicious male pulling a cart filled with property and wearing distinctive clothing.
Ghost Lake Village had been alerted by a resident whose holiday trailer was broken into the day before. On Monday, April 22, someone entered a camper and stole various personal effects, including some distinctive clothing.
Cochrane RCMP responded Tuesday night and located the male, arresting him for break & entering and possession of property obtained by crime. The adult male, of no fixed address, was lugging around a wagon full of stolen property, including two firearms. The firearms and various items were identified as belonging to nearby residents.
RCMP take rural crime seriously, and initiatives such as Rural Crime Watch programs make a difference. In this case, nearby residents were alerted to the presence of an intruder into the community which directly led to the arrest of a suspect, recovery of property including firearms, and improved safety.
A subsequent release will be made with the details of the offender and associated charges.
