UPDATE: Both lanes of traffic, following several hours of congestion since 12:30 p.m., are now open on Hwy 1 eastbound. A 61-year-old adult male from Redcliff, AB is dead following a collision on Highway 1 eastbound near Morley, AB. Weather is believed to have been a factor, due to heavy rain and some hail at the time of the accident. The man was the lone occupant in an eastbound sedan that was struck by an eastbound semi-truck between Morley Road and Bear Hills overpass around 12:30 p.m. today (Monday, July 2); the semi-truck driver did not sustain injuries. There were no other injuries incurred. Two other vehicles - another sedan a truck pulling a trailer, were involved and sustained damages but no other occupants were injured. Eastbound traffic was being re-routed onto Hwy 1A at Highway 1X, with line-ups lasting hours as long weekend traffic toward Cochrane was on route. RCMP are on scene and the cause of the collision is under investigation. Names will not be released.
