RCMP officers, along with the Emergency Response Team, were investigating the homicide of Lorenzo Bearspaw, who was reported missing on Jan. 3.
Bearspaw's body was discovered on Jan. 6 after a joint search and rescue effort by Special Tactical Operations and Police Dog Services.
Following the discovery of Bearspaw's body, police identified three suspects and obtained arrest warrants for John Stephens, Ralph Stephens and Deangelo Powderface.
In the process of serving the warrant, one of the suspects was shot when he engaged with police. Ralph Stevens died of his injuries after being transported to hospital.
John Stephens is in police custody and officers are still actively searching for Powederface.
"These events are tragic for the families, first responders and Morley community," said Chief Superintendent Tony Hamori, officer in charge of Southern Alberta District RCMP. "On behalf of the RCMP, I want to extend sincere condolences to the families of Lorenzo Bearspaw and Ralph Stephens. I also urge calm in the community while the investigation takes place.
