Four suspects were arrested after being pulled over by police in River Song early this morning. Cochrane RCMP stopped a blue Ford F150 truck at around 4:30 this morning and discovered each of the occupants had commited at least one offence of property theft. The individuals arrested were from Calgary, ranging in age from 31 to 43 years old. RCMP believe that the individuals drove to Cochrane for the sole purpose of committing property offenses, predominantly theft from vehicles. All charges are still pending. RCMP would like residents of Cochrane to call the Cochrane RCMP if they were the victim of any property offences last night. Cochrane saw a twenty percent spike in crime in 2017 since 2013, though it is a province-wide problem. The number of car thefts in Southern Alberta rural and municipal districts combined was 898 in 2013 but close to three times as many in 2017 at 3,197. "Despite continued successes in making several key arrests, property crimes continue to be an issue in Cochrane, " says Cpl. Troy Savinkoff of the Cochrane RCMP. "As always we ask that the public continue to do their part in reporting suspicious vehicles and locking up their property in order to discourage criminals like these from driving here from other communities to commit their crimes." If you have information about these incidents, please call the Cochrane RCMP at 403-851-8000 or call your local police.
