RCMP searching for suspect after road rage incident turns violent

A road rage incident-turned-fender-bender ended with a 40-year-old man punching and kicking a woman. On Jan. 10, a man driving an SUV began flashing his brights at a woman's vehicle in an apparent signal that she should turn off her high beams.

A road rage incident-turned-fender-bender ended with a 40-year-old man punching and kicking a woman.

On Jan. 10, a man driving an SUV began flashing his brights at a woman's vehicle in an apparent signal that she should turn off her high beams. The woman responded by flashing hers on then off to indicate they weren't on in the first place, according to the Cochrane RCMP. The vehicles were stopped facing each other at a red light on First Avenue  W and Fifth Avenue .

The suspect male then began waving his arms and making hand gestures to the woman before turning left onto Fifth Avenue in front of the victim's vehicle that was making a right-hand turn.

When the two were driving south on Fifth Avenue and once both vehicles crossed the train tracks, the suspect slammed on his brakes, causing a low-speed, rear-end collision.

Both drivers got out of the car, and that's when the man, described as slender and small, in his mid-40s. thinning blonde hair and a goatee or moustache, began yelling at the woman, then punched and kicked her.

The woman only had minor injuries but the man took off. The suspect vehicle is believed to be a red or black SUV with some minor damage to the back.

Cochrane RCMP are seeking for the public's assistance in identifying and locating the man. If you were  near Fifth Avenue and Glenbow Drive around 8 p.m. on Jan. 10, call the detachment at (403) 851-8000.
