The Cochrane RCMP seized a sizeable amount of suspected methamphetamine during a traffic stop last week outside of town limits as well as a significant amount of Cocaine and other drugs from an eratic driver the following weekend.
Meth seizure and arrest
A suspicious car was stopped by police in the early hours of July 6 on Highway 567 in Rocky View County where meth and other unknown substances were discovered.A 25-year-old female from BC and a 41-year-old male also from BC have both been charged with one count each of:
· Possession for the purpose of trafficking contrary to section 5(2) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.
· Possession of a substance contrary to section 4(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.
Both the male and female have been released from custody and are next scheduled to appear in Cochrane Court on Aug. 28.
RCMP are not able to comment on the number of drugs seized in the traffic stop, Cst. Kary Moore said such seizures always have an impact. "I believe any time you remove drugs from the street you will impact that corner of the world," Moore said. "Trust your instincts. If you see something suspicious, call your local detachment or crime stoppers at 1-800-222-8477. Your tips drastically increase the chances of solving a crime or stopping one in progress," stated a police news release.Cocaine and Crack Cocaine Seizure
On July 15th, 2018 at about 8:40 am, Cochrane RCMP began receiving complaints of an erratic driver, striking his head in an apparent attempt to stay awake.
RCMP Members located the vehicle, a silver Honda Civic, pulled over near exit 143 on Highway 1.
A male driver was asleep behind the wheel and the RCMP members could smell liquor in the vehicle.
The man had to be woken by the RCMP. A set of brass knuckles was found in his pocket. The RCMP believed the man to be impaired by alcohol.
After arresting the individual, RCMP searched the vehicle and found 6.82 grams of a substance believed to be Cocaine, 19.71 grams of a substance believed to be Crack Cocaine, 20 doses of a substance believed to be LSD as well as drug paraphernalia.The 21-year-old male from Calgary was charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle, impaired operation of a motor vehicle with over 80 mgs of alcohol, unauthorized possession of a weapon and three counts of possession of a controlled substance.
He is scheduled to appear in Cochrane Provincial Court on August 14th, 2018. His name will not be released at this time.
