Last week, two separate incidents prompted Cochrane RCMP to alert the community of a suspicious male. The individual has now attempted twice to lure young boys into his vehicle over the course of two days. On April 17, the Cochrane RCMP received a report of a young person being offered a ride from an unknown man around the Quigley drive area of Cochrane. When the young person declined the ride, the suspect is reported to have said, “Come on, you can get it.” After the young person refused, he ran home and told his parents. This youth described the male as being 40 years of age, Caucasian with a dark beard, heavy set, wearing a Philadelphia Flyers hat. He described the vehicle as being a dark coloured Buick car. In the second incident on April 19, the Cochrane RCMP received a report from another youth who was walking through the McDonalds parking lot in Cochrane. Both incidents were reported hours after they happened. The male said to him, “I have some loose change in the back of my truck, can you jump in and get it for me?” The young person said, “No,” and walked away. The young person in this second complaint met with an RCMP sketch artist and was able to develop a likeness which he felt accurately resembled the male. In this second complaint, the male is described as 40 to 50 years of age with a scruffy beard. He was in a black truck and had a black and ginger coloured dog with him. The Cochrane RCMP encourages residents to keep an eye out for their neighbours and especially for the young people in our community. If you spot something or someone suspicious, report it to the police immediately. Anyone with information regarding these suspicious occurrences or if anyone recognizes the male in the sketch, to please contact the Cochrane RCMP detachment at 403-851-8000.
