It has been a tragic weekend on roads around Cochrane with accidents on Friday and Saturday evenings killing two people. The first accident occurred at around 6 p.m. Friday evening in the Didsbury RCMP detachment area.
Didsbury RCMP responded to calls about a truck driving northbound on Highway 22, swerving and driving erratically. While attending the scene an additional call was received indicating the truck matching the description of the previous complaints was involved in a collision with several other vehicles north of Cochrane.
Preliminary investigation has revealed the truck was heading northbound on Highway 22 when it attempted to pass a vehicle and struck a southbound RV. A collision then occurred with a northbound RV and a southbound semi-tractor.
Tragically the driver of the truck, a 30 year-old male was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The southbound RV with one male and female occupant suffered minor injuries and were taken by EMS to a local hospital.
The northbound RV had one female occupant who was not injured. The southbound semi-tractor with one male occupant was also not injured.
Speed and weather were not contributing factors and the investigation continues. Highway 22 traffic was re-routed for several hours.
The second accident occurred at approximately 5:00 p.m when Cochrane RCMP responded to a single vehicle collision on Highway 1A near Morley Road.A motorcycle with a lone occupant was attempting to take a curve and a collision occurred. Tragically, the 61-year-old driver was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The investigation continues and no further updates from RCMP are expected.
