A family is pleading for the thief who broke into their Water Valley home on Christmas Eve to return the items that belonged to a deceased loved one.
Rhonda MacNutt was visiting with her daughter in Drumheller on Christmas Eve when she received an email alert from her alarm system that someone had broken in.
She soon discovered that someone had pried her front door right out of the door frame and stole a safe filled with treasured possessions, including items belonging to her late husband.
The thief(s) also knocked over furniture and dragged the safe through her home and over the concrete in her garage leaving scratch marks.
“They were in and out,” MacNutt said. “My husband just passed away and they took all of his personal (things).”
MacNutt said her husband died from cancer in August. Though there were items in the safe of monetary value, all MacNutt wants back is her husbands’ things.
The Didsbury RCMP responded to the break-in. No culprit has been found but it is still under investigation.
