The uneasy alliance between people who vote Conservative because they want to hang onto what they see as traditional values, and those who don’t want government interference because they want to run roughshod over rules and regulations, makes for a party that is anything but united. You end up getting something that pays lip service to family values and rural roots, while undoing the protections that support essential services, particularly in rural areas.
A party that puts Albertans first, rather than their own political power, is an improvement.

Our provincial government is opposed to First Nations’ access to drinking water?

$16 billion, and that’s before any more environmental damage is done.

I may be left leaning but I have a lot of respect for Guthrie and Sinclair. They speak their minds and are committed to this province. Granted, I used to think the same way about Brian Jean. Anyway, I wish the “new” party luck.

Here’s a coherent argument, that has already been offered up in the comments section:
Most Albertans don’t WANT a provincial police force. This plan is going to put more financial pressure on municipalities who can ill afford it.

As Mario Cabradilla wrote a week ago, "when Alberta introduced the Police Funding Model in 2020, shares of municipalities steadily increased to 30 per cent in 2024, compared to 10 per cent in 2018.”
Some relief was proposed to municipalities to ease the blow, but that’s set to expire next year. So are municipalities, already undercompensated by oil companies, expected to absorb the costs of policing?

If you find the five options all too simplistic, I invite you to check out Steve Boots’ 10-min. YouTube video posted today on the topic.

I like this initiative. It makes post-secondary education far more accessible to rural students.

I’m just frustrated with a provincial government that is laser-focused on blaming everything on the federal government, and not at all interested in maintaining the provincial services our tax dollars pay for. Don’t give us sovereignty, don’t give us great investment opportunities, don’t tell us what we ought to believe; just do what most of us want you to do.

I wish I had confidence that this was effective. Removing carbon from the air is something mature forests do effectively without a cent of financial input. Yet, through wildfire, logging, oil and gas excavations, agricultural clearing and development, I doubt even this investment will keep pace with what we lose every year.
