The Recreation Governance Council discussed seven applications from various organizations across Rocky View County. The funding provided to the applicants was to be taken from the 2025 Public Reserve. The combined cost from all received applications was $314,355.
Currently, there is $22,682,158 in capital funding available to be distributed to eligible non-profits who provide community, recreational, and cultural development.
The first application came from the Jumping Pound Community Hall Society. They requested $55,000 of the available 22 million from the public reserve to cover half of the cost for new windows and flooring.
With no questions, the funding was approved unanimously.
Next, the Yamnuska Wolfdog Sanctuary requested $125, 000, or 19 per cent of total cost, to upgrade their community day use area.
Following brief questioning from Councillor Wright, Hansen, and Reeve Kissel, the funding was approved.
Third, the Golden Rod Community Association requested $6,330 of $12,650 to replace counters and sinks.
With no questions, the funding was approved.
The Bow Valley Agricultural society requested funding for septic line repair. They requested 50 per cent of the total cost, asking for $17,250.
With no questions, the funding was approved.
The Bow Valley Community Club requested $14, 105 for their make-up air unit and ice scraper project.
Following questions about the how the amount of county and non-county attendees is recorded from Deputy Reeve Kochan, the motion was approved.
The penultimate motion came from the Langdon Community Association, who requested $75,000 total to cover half of the $150,000 required to fund the replacement of their outdoor arena.
Council clarified what was being replaced, the fencing and boards of the existing arena, before approving the funding unanimously.
Finally, the Cochrane BMX association requested a quarter of their site improvement project, $21,670 of $87,000. The improvements include picnic tables, sound system, bleachers, as well as the port-a-potty system.
Deputy Reeve Kochan confirmed that the association was waiting on funding approval from the Town of Cochrane. After confirmation, the motion was approved.
Meeting twice annually, the next application date for a non-profit to request funding is October 1. Eligibility for funding is determined using criteria outlined in The Community Recreation and Culture Grant Funding Policy C-317.
Some criteria outlined includes how many county and non-county residents the organization serves and how accessible the services provided are to county residents.
