Crossfield resident sentenced for possession of child porn

Thijs Gordon Vogelzang was sentenced to 258 days in custody, but since he has already served 168 days, he currently has 90 left to serve.

Crossfield resident Thijs Gordon Vogelzang has been sentenced for possession of child pornography. 

Vogelzang, a former educational assistant previously employed by Rocky View Schools, was arrested on May 29, 2024.

He was previously employed at W.H. Croxford High School during the 2022/23 school year and was working at W.G. Murdoch High School in Crossfield at the time of his arrest. 

Initial charges heading into trial at Calgary Court related to child pornography, sexual Interference, and making child pornography. 

He was convicted of one count of possession of child pornography. The two other charges—sexual interference and making child pornography—were withdrawn.

Vogelzang, who is 44 years old, was sentenced on June 5, 2025 to 258 days in custody.

Because he has already served 168 days in custody, Vogelzang has 90 days left to serve on his sentence. 

The arrest came after a complex six-month long investigation by Airdrie Rural RCMP, in partnership with Airdrie RCMP Specialized Investigation Unit.
