The Rocky View Regional Handibus Society (RVRHS) has reached a milestone; 45 years of providing rural accessible transportation services to the residents of Rocky View County, Crossfield, Chestermere, Beiseker, Irricana, and Cochrane.
Established in 1980, the RVRHS began as a resource centre for families with disabled children.
A donated wheelchair-accessible van helped families facing disability transportation challenges. That same bus soon started helping grandparents and neighbours to access those community supports needed to facilitate aging in place.
The agency has grown to 15 active buses and a 5,000 square kilometre service region.
Executive Director Paul Siller said RVRHS is honoured to reach this milestone.
“This anniversary is possible due to the incredible efforts of our staff, our volunteer Board of Directors, and the generous support of our community partners," Siller noted.
To mark the anniversary, the society held an open house at its Airdrie depot on Aug. 8th, inviting the public to learn more about the organization while serving up cake and refreshments.
