Redwood Meadows hosted its annual Canada Day Bike Parade on July 1, followed by an afternoon of community-focused fun activities.

The open house starts at 6 p.m. and will go until 8 p.m.

Among the recyclables being collected are ag plastics such grain bags, plastic twine, electronics, household hazardous waste, livestock lick tubs, used oil, oil filters, containers, paint, propane tanks, tires, unused chemicals in their original sealed containers, and barbed wire.

“There are no bylaws around dogs on the Nation, so we’re not equipped to handle dogs … we’re not trained to catch dogs and sometimes they’re injured, and that’s when most of the time our team members get bit, is trying to pick up a dog that’s been injured to transport them to safety,” said Richard.

According to MacMillan, having the students care for the eggs and recognize that animals need a special level of care was significant.

“We just did what we could,” Breakey said. “It was amazing how everyone rallied.”

“There’s been a lot of challenges and adversities students have encountered over the school year – I’ve literally seen blood, sweat and tears. I had a student that actually sewed her finger, and I also had a student who made a ribbon skirt with a broken heart – she had tears falling as she was making it.”
