The consequences of Alberta’s decision could spread beyond provincial boundaries, added Dr. Howard Njoo, Canada's deputy chief public health officer. 

The report said the drop in spending was expected given the improved conditions from last spring when the economy had a historic slide, prompting the federal treasury to pump out an unprecedented amount of emergency aid.

Statistics Canada said the easing of public-health restrictions in many provinces in June helped reverse the slide in sectors reliant on in-person services, such as retail, accommodation, and food services, which all saw growth.

And while I will be spending part of my time in Ottawa, Banff has and will always have my heart."

Alberta's chief medical health officer Dr. Deena Hinshaw has always said she presents scientific evidence, numbers, and trends, but the final decision on how to respond to pandemic developments lies with the government.
