Police took a step forward in the ongoing investigation of a missing woman last week by searching Morley area wetlands exposed after this summer’s dry weather.

Getting value for our tax dollars and keeping spending under control is what we all expect. It’s how I’ve approached my decision making as one of your councillors over the last 10 years.

It’s a question of priorities when staying within a budget. The last council did an admirable job of keeping tax hikes under control – unfortunately growth has long outstripped any infrastructure upgrades and our road network is very sadly deficient.

This isn’t just a matter of keeping taxes low or reducing them – it’s about transparency and engagement. Let’s face it, taxes always feel too high when council can’t, or doesn’t, outline the needs and explain what you get for your taxes.

Healthy planned growth keeps taxes from rising. As a town councillor I will support our existing businesses and encourage others to relocate to Cochrane to improve our tax base.

The foundation for financial responsibility means being diligent on each and every source of spending.
