The bail hearing for 26-year-old Benjamin Laslo has been adjourned until Sept. 2.
The Cochrane man has been charged with two counts of ‘carrying a weapon for a purpose dangerous to the public peace’, contrary to section 88 (1) of the Criminal Code in connection with an incident that took place Aug. 17 in the community of West Valley.
Laslo was reported to Cochrane RCMP to be walking around the Mitford Park area that evening, armed with what was identified as a crossbow and a yet-to-be-confirmed firearm.
Following his alleged refusal to put his weapons down as per request of the RCMP, the situation escalated, where some 25-30 Cochrane RCMP, the RCMP Emergency Response Team South and the HAWCS helicopter were deployed to assist the situation.
Laslo was reported to have found his way back to a residence on Quigley Drive (believed to be his home). After officers surrounded the house, he eventually surrendered around 9:45 p.m. and was arrested.
Laslo has been held in custody and is at the Calgary Remand Centre; he appeared in Cochrane Provincial Court Aug. 26 via CCTV. His council has been identified as Mark Walters.
