Arts engagement project to shoot documentary film in Cremona

Canadian Framelines, an arts engagement project touring Canadian towns, will be making a stop in Cremona for an information session on Jan. 31.

Held at the library in the Cremona School, the meeting aims to gather local residents, organizations and businesses to take part in the filming of a documentary about living in Cremona and the surrounding area.

The documentary is the brainchild of two filmmakers — Alexandra Caulfield and Ryder Thomas White — who are travelling across Canada, stopping in one community in each province, to find out what it means to live in that region. Ultimately, the film will document how the regional identities fit into the Canadian identity.

“Cremona was nominated — and we won,” said Gail Cummings, a teacher at the Cremona School. “We have a uniqueness that stands out from the rest of Canada. Everyone should come out to meet these people who are going to be in our community. Tell them your stories.”

The information session is being held in an attempt to find about 30 participants to help with filming, along with volunteers and people to contribute ideas about the Cremona area.

The 30 participants will be broken down into 10 teams, and each team will film and edit their own three-minute movie about living in the area.

Canadian Framelines will provide any training.

The filmmakers are expected to stay in the Cremona area throughout the month of February, said Cummings.

The final project is anticipated to take two forms. First, as a gallery installation of short films created by community residents across Canada. The installation will tour Canada throughout 2014.

The second part of the project is a feature-length documentary that will travel the festival circuit in 2014.

The meeting will get underway at 7 p.m.
