With the 57th Annual Cochrane Labour Day Parade just weeks away, the Cochrane and Area Events Society (CAES) is calling on the community to help make this beloved tradition a success.
The Society recently issued several calls to action, inviting volunteers, float entries, and nominations for Parade Marshall to come forward as preparations ramp up.
“We're looking for volunteers for this year’s Labour Day Parade,” the organization shared in a social media post. “Get a front row seat to the parade and help us make this a safe and successful event!”
Volunteer Roles Available
Volunteers are needed for a range of duties, including setup, takedown, and barricade monitoring, which is an essential safety measure during the parade.
“Most of our volunteer efforts are streamlined for barricade monitoring,” explained Marina Chabbert, chair of CAES. “Volunteers are in charge of setting up and manning barricades to ensure vehicles in the route can safely exit and no new traffic enters during parade times. Keeping the route clear also ensures everyone gets a good viewing spot.”
Interested volunteers can sign up at volunteersignup.org/MDHYJ.
Floats Wanted: Businesses and Nonprofits Encouraged to Join
Currently, 55 floats are registered, but there’s still room for more. CAES is encouraging local businesses, nonprofits, and organizations to take part in the celebration.
“We’re encouraging all businesses and nonprofits not to hesitate,” said Chabbert. “Register your floats early so we can start planning the parade order and avoid a last-minute rush.”

Parade Marshall Nominations Open
In another effort to include the community, CAES is now accepting nominations for this year’s Parade Marshall. They’re looking for someone who truly embodies the spirit of Cochrane, be it a dedicated volunteer, impactful organization, or inspiring local business.
“Cochrane has so many amazing people, organizations, and businesses who make a difference in our community,” the Society shared. “Please email us with your nomination and tell us why you believe they are deserving.”
The deadline for nominations is August 8. Submit yours to: [email protected]
With the big day set for Monday, September 1, planning is well underway. According to Chabbert, the Society begins prepping just ahead of Canada Day.
“We typically start mid-June,” she said. “We get the website going, open float registration, and after Canada Day, it’s full-on parade mode.”
Stay tuned to the Cochrane and Area Events Society for updates on entertainment lineups, float features, and more parade announcements in the coming weeks.
