Next weekend, drop by the Cochrane and Area Humane Society for their annual Fall Book Sale. With hundreds of books to choose from, and furry critters to check out, the event serves as a fundraiser for the local shelter.
The sale is set to run Oct 18 and 19, from noon to 5 p.m. on both Friday and Saturday.
“The books have already started coming in,” said Cheryl Wallach, spokesperson for the local humane society. “People are dropping off boxes upon boxes of books.”
Wallach said the sale items include gently used books from a variety of genres — from romance novels and fiction, to biographies and classics. Sale attendees will also have the opportunity to peruse through DVDs and CDS.
Prices will range from $1 to $5.
All the proceeds from the event will go to support the “general health and care of the animals in the shelter,” said Wallach.
She said she’s hoping the fundraising sale collects $3,000. Last year’s event raised about $2,600. The Spring Book Sale, held in April, raised $4,900 for the shelter.
“We’d love for people to come by and buy some books — maybe get going on your Christmas shopping,” said Wallach. “Or maybe adopt a dog or cat while you’re here.”
If you can’t take home a cat the weekend of the sale — not to worry. There will be many opportunities to adopt during the shelter’s 15th anniversary adoption fair, dubbed Captivating Cats.
Slated to run Oct. 25-26, the adoption celebration will allow interested homes to adopt a cat that is at least six months old for $15.
