What are your priorities for improving social or community services?
After canvassing residents in thousands of homes the priorities are:
Public engagement between residents and council; to always hear the needs of the community, what is working and what is not.
Your top priority is 24-hour urgent care and improved EMS services, ultrasound and full term prenatal care benefitting young families and seniors.
I will be advocating immediately to the province to ensure better health care.
Affordable housing with options in new communities for youth, singles, single income families and seniors at all stages of independence, and possible partnerships of Big Hill Lodge and Seniors on the Bow for relocation. Effective delivery of service requires that they can be accessed.
You want transit! For one-car and no-car families, vital for seniors getting to appointments, socializing and shopping. For youth to get to work, to find work, engage in activities. This may alleviate some of the traffic congestion.
The women’s shelter affected many of you directly and indirectly. I will continue to advocate for a 2018 opening so women and children remain close to support systems of family, friends, etc. during crisis and recovery.
