The Cochrane and Area Events Society and the Town of Cochrane are working together to bring another spectacular patriotic party to Mitford Park for the 156th Canada Day celebration on July 1.
Entry to the family-oriented event will be free and festivities will kick off at noon.
Away from the field, children’s activities will also be available, including inflatable activity centres, a petting zoo, pony rides, and more surprises throughout the day.
In terms of the main stage entertainment, the July 1 fiesta will feature a line-up of several artists performing throughout the day, accompanied by a Half Hitch Brewing beer tent and a fleet of food trucks.
CAES member Erika Richards said there is much to look forward to for everyone who attends Cochrane’s Canada Day celebration.
“The day is all family-oriented so it’s a great time to come out with the kids from 11 in the morning until 11 at night, and we’re having a very big fireworks show this year,” Richards said.
New to this year’s line-up and taking the stage first are the Calgary Stampede Band of Outriders. They will be performing at 12:30 p.m. followed by Austin T. O’Keefe and his Nostalgia Boys.
At 3 p.m., a signing of the O Canada national anthem by Choral Waves will take place, followed by a dignitaries’ greeting.
CAES will also be presenting and displaying a smaller version of their Cochrane Together – A Remembrance Mosaic. Prior to Canada Day festivities, a quiet ceremony for the installation of the 16-by-24-foot mosaic on the side of the Lube City building facing The Station will take place on June 30.
Throughout Saturday afternoon, entertainment will continue with performances by Hippocratic Oath, Chris LeBlanc, Taiko Drummers, Peter & The Wolves, and Dangerous Goods. Headlining this year’s event will be the Marcus Trummer Band, winner of the Blues Recoding Artist of the Year at the 2022 YYC Music Awards.
As with previous years, Richards encourages attendees to take Southland shuttles or COLT, as there is no parking at Mitford or on the street. Vehicle access is severely restricted due to ongoing construction, so attendees are asked to refer to the list of Shuttles in this week’s edition of The Eagle and on social media.
With Canada Day quickly approaching, Richards is reaching out to the community to find volunteers for many of the activities taking place throughout the day.
“It’s such a big party to put on and if we’re stretched in the volunteer department, some of the activities are in danger of not being held,” she said.
