Cochrane residents are invited to attend the official opening of Centre Avenue, one of Cochrane’s newest primary travel arteries, which currently runs through the Quarry site from Railway Street to Griffin Road.
The celebration will take place Sept. 6 from 10-11 a.m. at the intersection of Centre Ave. and Bow Street, and attendees will enjoy the sounds of the Bow Valley High School jazz band, which will perform during the ceremony, and the sweet taste of a celebratory cake.
“This project is really starting to take shape and has been a real effort in collaboration with multiple stakeholders,” said Rick Deans, senior manager of infrastructure services for the Town of Cochrane. “We are excited to provide our municipality and its visitors with this multi-modal transportation option.”
CBC News Calgary host and Cochrane resident Carla Beynon will emcee the event.
A salute to the history of road transportation in Cochrane will also be part of the ceremony. The presentation will include examples of vehicles used in Cochrane from as far back as the 1880s, such as antique motor vehicles, wagons pulled by horses, horseback riders and modern bicycles.
Centre Ave. has been open to traffic through the Quarry site since June, and will eventually extend from Railway St. north over the railway tracks to 1st Street where it currently runs to Highway 1A.
Those wishing to attend the official opening can park in the Sobeys parking lot.
