The east parking lot of the Sheridan Mall will be closed for a two week period in September.

A recent update by the Town of Cochrane indicates that the widening of Centre Avenue is nearing completion.

In an August 11 update on the Town’s website, Centre Ave Phase 3 has been labeled “Substantially Complete” barring a sidewalk replacement and final pavement installation.

This latest phase, running from Powell Street to 1st Street and including the 1st Street intersection, is part of a broader improvement plan since 2020 to expand the roadway to two through lanes in all directions.

“The work is required to meet construction specifications and ensure long-term safety and quality,” the Town stated. “Once complete, final paving on Centre Avenue will follow.”

A temporary two-week closure of the east parking lot at Sheridan Mall is scheduled for September to accommodate this work. All businesses will remain open during construction, and pedestrian access will be maintained. Visitors will be directed to 10 available parking stalls at First Avenue West and Second Street.

Earlier phases saw upgrades from Highway 1A to 2nd Street and from 2nd Street to Powell Street. The current work involved relocating utility lines for gas, power, and telecommunications, as well as acquiring land along the west side of Centre Avenue to make way for the expansion. The top lift of asphalt, or final pavement, will be applied in 2025 after the roadway has had time to settle.

Exact dates for the parking closure will be confirmed at a later time.
