Christmas came and Christmas went. If you have taken down your tree and are scratching your head as to what to do with it, the Cochrane Eco Centre offers a curbside Christmas tree collection which will run from January 6 to 17.

Tree collection will coincide with your regular waste and recycling days.

All trees are to be put either 1 m beside or behind your collection bins. Please do not put them in front as this will interfere with standard operations of the waste and recycling collection.

"The collection of the Christmas trees is done by two different trucks, sometimes people think it is done by the same truck collecting everything but it's not, it is a totally different system," explains Fabrizio Bertolo, manager of Cochrane's waste and recycling.

Bertolo adds that Christmas trees are collected manually and can even be placed on the driveway or the front lawn as long as they are not restricting access to waste and recycling carts. This will allow for functionality come collection day.

It is also imperative that all lights, tinsel, decorations and netting is removed from your tree prior to placing it outside, otherwise they will not be collected.

Should you choose to handle your tree situation on your own, or if you happen to miss your collection days, or do not have any curbside collection assigned in your area, the Eco Centre will take trees Tuesday to Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Bertolo wants to remind Cochranites that organic collection now runs every two weeks. The My Cochrane Collection app launched back in April, 2019 can also assist you with any questions or jolt your memory about collection days.

"You can get a reminder to your phone by text or email through the app. It can give you a reminder whenever you want, the day before, the same day, about placing out your cart.
