Classic cars on display for Cochrane show and shine

Get your turtle wax and buffing rags out people, because fast cars, classic lines and nothing but the best will be on display at the annual Cochrane Classic Car Club Show and Shine Sept. 15.

Last year’s inaugural show saw massive numbers of car enthusiasts show support and even more mustangs and hotrods than you could shake a stick at. But don’t think about shaking them too close, it’s a car show after all.

While it’s hard to improve on a good thing, Club president Ken Hutchinson said that the event, which is held around Centennial Plaza on First Street, would be even more pedestrian friendly this time around.

“We will be temporarily barricading some downtown streets with the cooperation of 32 downtown businesses,” said Hutchinson. It will make the event a safer one for young kids mesmerized by the flashy muscle.

For anyone traveling through First Street, on Sunday morning, a section of the road will be barricaded starting at 7 a.m., bright and early.

Featuring a kid’s fun zone, live music, and lots of cars, with an expected 600 vehicles, the second annual event is something Hutchinson is hoping will bring out the whole family.

“If we get 600 classic vehicles this year, we’ll distribute $6,000 among five charitable organizations that we’ve chosen to feature this year,” he said.

If you have a nice showpiece, the club welcomes your entry with a $10 fee and either a donation of a book or vehicle manual on classic cars, trucks, etc, or a donation to the food bank.

Show and shine events are after all a spectator sport and with that said, entry to the event is free said Hutchinson, who wants nothing more than for everyone to enjoy the spectacle that is, classic cars.

There will be 12 trophies to hand out and the event is still taking volunteers to help out. For more information on how you can be a part of the event, call or email Ken Hutchinson at 403-932-1677 and [email protected].
