The board of the Cochrane & District Chamber of Commerce has elected a new leader – Jennifer Wanner is the new Executive Director.
Wanner has made a remarkable impression on the Cochrane business landscape over the past three years as an account manager and is excited to continue her service to local businesses in her new role.
Her predecessor Kelly Carson died April 22, leaving a huge hole in the local business community. Cochranites attending business and community events around town came to enjoy Carson’s extensive collection of wildly decorated sports coats and suits, often festooned with things like Disney characters, brightly coloured flowers or tropical decorations like pineapples.
Wanner said that’s one tradition she won’t be carrying on.
“No, Jenny does not wear pineapples,” she said with a laugh.
She will, however, be involved in paying homage to Carson’s memory at the first Chamber event under her watch, the Kelly Carson Memorial Golf Tournament, to be held Monday Sep. 16, 10:30 am to 5 pm, at the Cochrane Golf Club.

Wanner estimates they currently have between 250 and 300 members at the Chamber.
Her goal is to help grow membership by increasing engagement in the networking events.
“The whole idea is to make a bigger splash and help make the Chamber more visible in this community – just having a stronger presence, I'm thinking will be a priority for the board,” she said.
After the golf tournament, the next big event Wanner will be involved in is Small Business Week in October.
