With safety as a top priority for local active transportation, the Town of Cochrane will host Bike Safety Week from June 2 to 6, promoting cycling safety and active transportation for local youth. This community-wide initiative is part of the Town’s broader vision of building an Active Transportation-integrated community.
“Bike Safety Week is part of Cochrane’s broader commitment to enhancing active transportation options,” stated the Town in its official announcement. “We're working to improve walking and cycling infrastructure across Cochrane, giving residents another sustainable way to get around, and building on over 80 kilometres of trails, pathways, and sidewalks in town.”
Organized in partnership with Kiwanis and Bike Cochrane, a dedicated team will visit Elizabeth Barrett, Glenbow, and RancheView schools to deliver interactive, hands-on safety lessons designed to empower youth with practical cycling knowledge and confidence.
The sessions will include:
- Strategic route planning
- Essential bike handling techniques
- Professional helmet safety checks
- Smart riding skills for all conditions
To further support safe cycling habits, the Town will be giving away free bike bells during the week. Bells can be picked up at the following locations (while supplies last):
- Cochrane RancheHouse
- Family & Community Support Services (FCSS)
- The Station
- Protective Services Building
Bike Safety Week complements Cochrane’s ongoing investments in active transportation, which include:
- The E-scooter pilot program
- Trail network expansion
- The development of an Active Transportation Plan
These projects reflect a community-wide effort to create safer, more connected routes for people of all ages and abilities.
