WANT TO TRY ROLLER DERBY?
The Rockyview Roller Derby Association is hosting a Friday night practice for anyone interested in giving the sport a try. The Fresh Meat practice welcomes all skaters and will focus on basic skills, endurance and fitness. Participants are asked to bring running shoes for dry land warm ups and a $10 drop-in fee for skaters from outside the league. The event takes place on Friday, Jan. 10 at Frank Wills Hall from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. For more information on the league visit https://rvrollerderby.com
PRENATAL GROUP
For first time mommies, those little humans growing in your belly can come with many questions and uncertainties. A prenatal group is always a good source of information and should you be on your checklist before baby arrives. On January 9 from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m at the Parent Link Centre there will be a Cochrane Prenatal Health Group which will be sure to put you at ease come the big day. There will be plenty of information about nutrition, healthy pregnancy and birth as well as finding various community resources to help you along your new journey in life. Stop in and make connections, have a support system and walk away with knowledge. The session is put on by Alberta Health Services and is free to all. Register at 403-851-6146.
SHAKE IT LIKE A POLAROID PICTURE
Are you looking to release some energy and boogie the night away? On Sunday, January 12, from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the Frank Will Memorial Hall, Ecstatic Movement will be taking place. The one hour affair is a form of free flow dance, movement and meditation and allows you the opportunity to move and express your body the way it feels the need to. No experience is required, just a friendly attitude and willingness. Let go and allow the music to guide your soul and feel liberated in doing so. The dance floor is a safe space of respect and quietness. Connect with others and share a dance or kindly reject by placing your hands at your heart meaning "no thank you". The event is 16+ with a drop in fee of $20. You are more than welcome to drop in but it is encouraged to attend via the Facebook page, Ecstatic Movement and remember to dance like nobody is watching.
ENGLISH CLASSES
Beginning on Sunday, January 12 from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at 902 Glenbow Drive, English as a second language (ESL) conversation classes will be taking place. The eight week university style course is free to those interested and will be ongoing Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. The winter session continues after Sundays's first instalment on Tuesday, January 14. No registration is required just drop-in and start learning. Free childcare is also available if you are bringing along a little one.
