Police continue to investigate the cause of a crash northeast of town earlier this week that claimed the life of a 72-year-old Cochrane man.
Cpl. Curtis Peters said a dump truck was travelling west on Highway 567 Monday morning about 7:30 a.m. when a car travelling ahead in the same direction slowed down to turn onto Bearspaw Road.
The dump truck tried to avoid rear-ending the car by moving into the oncoming lane, but instead collided with an eastbound Dodge Ram pickup truck. The pickup rolled over and came to rest in the ditch near the highway.
Peters said the 72-year-old driver of the Dodge – a Cochrane resident – was pronounced dead at the scene.
Airdrie RCMP and a collision analyst are investigating the cause and factors of the fatal crash and Peters said he will know in the coming days whether any charges may be forthcoming. The drivers of the other two vehicles were not injured.
