Oh, Danny boy, the pipes, the pipes are calling.
The Cochrane Pipe Band is hoping the pipes are calling some Cochranites, as the band formerly known as the Men of Vision Pipes and Drums is on the prowl for pipers.
“We are a friendly group of individuals who enjoy socializing as much as playing,” said band manager Leslie Deans. “We enjoy travel, especially travelling to band schools in different parts of North America, and one year we travelled to Scotland and hope to go back soon.”
The band is made up of pipers and drummers of all skill levels, and even provides a local instructor for those wanting to learn how to pipe.
The Cochrane Pipe Band will hold an open house Oct. 5 at the Cochrane RancheHouse at 11 a.m., filled with demonstrations, music and information for those interested in playing with the band.
Playing mostly in parades and events in and around Southern Alberta, the Cochrane Pipe Band changed its name after many years of discussion and wanted to better identify itself to people around the world.
With parade season wrapped up, the band’s biggest night of the year, Robbie Burns Night, looms on the horizon this January.
The band will also open the Annual Lindsay Leigh Kimmett Monumental Tournament of Aces at the Links of GlenEagles and Remembrance Day at the Cochrane Legion.
