The Cochrane Public Library is inviting families to participate in a free community scavenger hunt on Saturday, May 10, from 1 to 4 p.m., taking place throughout the library and the downtown core.

“It’s really about connection,” said Carmen Erison, program and engagement manager for the Cochrane Public Library. “It’s about families connecting and working together while enjoying and exploring more of what the town has to offer. This is also a great opportunity to build relationships with local businesses—and win some prizes.”

The scavenger hunt is part of the Library’s 75th anniversary celebrations, which have included events such as Journey to Narnia and Edible Book Day.

“The library has been a large part of the Cochrane community,” said Erison. “We will continue to celebrate our anniversary with several large, fun activities all throughout summer.”

Founded in 1950, the library has long played a central role in the Cochrane community. Erison noted that the library has particularly served families over the decades.

“The great thing about going to the library as a family is that you’re encouraging literacy among yourselves and your children,” she said.

Coinciding with the International Day of Families, The hunt will emphasize family members working together to find clues and solve puzzles.

“The hunt is designed for everyone to work together,” said Erison. “There will be clues and tasks for kids but also challenges geared toward adults.”

Participants will have the chance to win a variety of prizes, including:

  • A gift certificate from Route 22
  • Two Auto Detail Gold Packages
  • Two drop-in passes to the Messy Moose Art Studio

The grand prize, donated by the Cochrane Lions Club & Rodeo, includes:

  • Eight weekend passes to the 2025 Cochrane Rodeo
  • Exclusive Behind the Chute tours
  • Branded ball caps

“We are incredibly grateful to the Cochrane Lions Club and all our prize donors,” said Erison. “This scavenger hunt highlights one of our core missions—support. We’re supporting local businesses, and they’re supporting us in return.”

Participants can pick up a map, clue sheet and scavenger hunt guidelines at the Cochrane Public Library on the day of the event.
