With assistance from Cochrane RCMP, a man believed to be connected to a recent shooting in Calgary' southeast community of Radisson Heights has been arrested.

"We would like to thank our partners at Cochrane RCMP for their assistance in helping us advance this investigation," stated the City of Calgary in a press release.

The shooting occurred at approximately 10:30 a.m. on Aug. 11, when Calgary police were called to a residence located in the 2800 block of 15 Avenue S.E., after reports of shots fired.

"After speaking with the complainant and witnesses, it is believed that an argument between two men occurred at the residence, which resulted in one man leaving and then later returning to the area in a truck," stated the release. "It is alleged the man then drove by while shooting in front of and behind the residence and then fled the scene prior to police arrival."

No injuries were reported, according to the release.

Five days after the incident, on Aug. 16, Cochrane RCMP members located a truck in Morley with the same description as the vehicle used by the suspect and notified Calgary police. Members of the Calgary Police Service executed a search warrant on the vehicle, the release stated, and a firearm was located inside the truck before the vehicle was then seized by police.

The following day, Cochrane RCMP members located and arrested the suspect, who remains in custody.

As a result of that arrest, Malik Holloway, a 24-year-old resident of Stoney Nakoda, has been charged with one count each of careless use of a firearm, pointing a firearm, possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose, knowledge of unauthorized possession of a firearm, possession of a firearm in a vehicle, four counts of possession of a firearm contrary to a prohibition order, two counts of failure to comply, and one count of possession of stolen property over $5,000.

"It is believed he is also responsible for a drive-by shooting in Morley," the release stated.

Anyone with information about this investigation or about firearms in our community is asked to contact police by calling 403-266-1234. Tips can also be submitted anonymously to Crime Stoppers through any of the following methods:

"Our efforts to address gun violence rely on strong community support," the Calgary release concluded. "If you have information that could help an investigation, such as witnessing suspicious behaviour or vehicles, please contact police. Even something small can have a great impact on an investigation."

In their own press release, Cochrane RCMP stated Holloway was arrested after officers responded to reports of shots being fired at two men from a vehicle on Stoney Nakoda First Nation.

"Police located a stolen vehicle matching the description of the vehicle used in the shooting," the release stated. "A traffic stop was attempted and the vehicle fled from police."

With assistance from Cochrane RCMP’s Crime Reduction Unit and Police Dog Services, the stolen vehicle was located a short time later and two individuals were taken into custody, according to RCMP. A stolen firearm was also recovered.

As a result, Holloway was charged with 26 offences, some of which include two counts of discharging a firearm with intent, two counts of pointing a firearm, break-and-enter with intent to steal a firearm, and possession of a prohibited firearm.

Holloway was also wanted by Calgary Police Service for unrelated firearms offences. He has been remanded into custody and will be appearing in Cochrane Provincial Court on Sept. 20.
