Cochrane RCMP confirms there is an investigation happening on a vehicle incident that took place at Fifth Avenue on August 18.

Cochrane RCMP is investigating a vehicle incident that occurred on the afternoon of August 18 along Fifth Avenue.

Local resident Joylyn Leugner said she came across the scene during her regular Monday walk around 1 p.m. near the exit of the shopping area across from the Lions Events Centre.

“I walk on that street almost every day for two hours,” she said. “It would be probably around 1 p.m. when I saw a few police cars there and some EMS people.”

Leugner, who only witnessed the aftermath, reported seeing a young woman being treated while officers spoke with a man believed to be the driver.

“It was a young woman,” she recalled. “She had a backpack with her and then I did hear the police say, ‘could someone show us who was the driver?’ Then an individual was pointed out, standing next to a car that was just out of the driveway, partly on the sidewalk.”

While details of the incident have not been released, the Eagle confirmed with Cochrane RCMP that a vehicle-related investigation is underway that matches Leugner’s account.
