In their most recent update to the press, Cochrane RCMP advise that additional charges have been pursued as a result of a fatal motor vehicle collision that occurred on Highway 1A near Morley Road last summer.

RCMP previously stated an SUV was travelling west on Highway 1A on Aug. 19, 2022, at approximately 7:35 p.m. when it crossed the yellow centre line and collided head-on with a motorcycle travelling east.

As a result of the collision, 53-year-old Samantha Wylie, a Fort Saskatchewan resident, was declared deceased at the scene.

After the collision, 33-year-old Kendra Bigstony, a resident of Morley, faced charges related to the impaired operation of a motor vehicle causing death.

However, in their most recent update on April 11, Cochrane RCMP report that Deirdre Snow (29), a resident of Stoney Nakoda First Nation, has now been charged with impaired operation causing death; impaired operation causing bodily harm; impaired operation while over 80 mg per cent alcohol causing death; impaired operation while over 80 mg per cent alcohol causing bodily harm; and public mischief.

Snow was held for a Judicial Interim Release Hearing and was released on conditions. She'll appear before an Alberta Court of Justice in Cochrane on May 2.

According to Cpl. Gina Slaney, Alberta RCMP media relations officer, Bigstony's charges will be dropped at an upcoming court date.
