Cochrane store helps children's sight overseas

Mountain View Optometry will be fundraising until the end of October donating funds to the Optometry Giving Sight Organizations.

Mountain View Optometry will be fundraising until the end of October donating funds to the Optometry Giving Sight Organizations.

“It is a fantastic organization, it gets the whole office involved and gives a chance to give everyone in the community to help out,” said Kaila Pharis, Mountain View Optometry optometric assistant.

“To send glasses and eye exams overseas is awesome.”

World Site Day is an initiative of VISION 2020: The Right to Sight. Last year the Cochrane clinic raised over $5,000 with monies funding projects that provide vision care, local training and infrastructure support for people who are blind or vision impaired due to uncorrected refractive error.

This year Mountain View Optometry wants to raise $10,000.

Fundraising efforts put on by the clinic include a 50/50 draw, a silent auction, a big sale at the store (last day on Oct. 13), and optometrists will also be donating all the eye-examination fees on Thursday.

World Sight Day is on Oct. 13, promoting individuals to focus global attention on blindness and vision impairment.

For more information stop by Mountain View Optometry office located in Cochrane, at 404 First St. or in Calgary at the Crowfoot location, at #5 600 Crowfoot Crescent, NW.
