Cochrane's volunteer income tax filing program is returning to the community.

Just in time for tax season, Cochrane Family and Community Support Services (FCSS) is giving a helping hand to eligible residents who are filing their 2023 income taxes, through the Community Volunteer Income Tax Program.

The FCSS-run program, supported by the CRA, assists eligible low-income residents simple tax situations to file their annual income taxes by working with trained community volunteers. Through this, it helps residents access necessary and applicable government benefits.

Manager of FCSS for the Town of Cochrane, Kim Krawec, said this important service would not be possible without support from community volunteers.

“Last year, four volunteers assisted with filing 651 tax returns,” Krawec said. “The tax assistance provided through this program has positively impacted hundreds of seniors, children and low-income individuals by ensuring they receive all obtainable benefits.”
