Cochrane is on the brink of 30,000 residents, according to the 2019 census.
The 29,277 residents translates to a 4.7 per cent population increase – down from the 5.9 per cent increase seen the year before.
The annual town census was conducted April 1-30 and drew participation from 99 per cent of residents.
According to a town press release this morning, a contest to win $500 Cochrane Dollars boosted online participation to a record high of 57 per cent.
Stephen and Audrey Zub attended Monday night council to receive their $500 win from the contest.
Mayor Genung thanked the community for the participation, adding "a precise consensus count ensures the town receives the maximum funding the community is entitled to, as many provincial government sources of funding are awarded on a per capita basis."
The figures will be reported to Municipal Affairs and adopted as the official census by fall.
