Cochrane native Devin Goss is vying for a $100,000 business grant as the Alberta candidate for the ‘BDC (Business Development Bank of Canada) Young Entrepreneur Award’.

Goss, who graduated from Cochrane High School in 2002, is the co-founder of BluPlanet Recycling Inc. — one of the premier Calgary service providers for multi-family and commercial recycling and planned compostable organics.

“We try to fill in the gaps where the city doesn’t provide recycling services,” said Goss. ‘We will also be expanding into Cochrane in 2015.”

In just five years, the service provider has become one of the leading alternatives for the 165,000 Calgarians who are not covered by the City of Calgary’s commingled recycling program.

The BDC announced May 29 that Goss would represent Alberta as the outstanding young entrepreneur with his ‘Waste With Purpose’ program — which seeks to expand their collection program for compostable organics and strive to divert even more waste from landfill.

The candidate needs Cochrane and Canadians coast-to-coast to vote for him at bdcyoungentrepreneuraward.ca until the contest closes June 12; the winner will be announced June 13.

“I’m hoping to get the support of the community, as we have strong roots there.”
