Community Tree Fruit Round-Up returns for a second year

Town of Cochrane launches its second Community Tree Fruit Round-Up event following the successful inauguration in 2024.

Hundreds of pounds of fruit were collected during the successful 2024 Round-Up event.

If the apple does not fall far from the tree, then Cochranites are invited to pick it up and donate it as part of the Town’s second annual Community Tree Fruit Round-Up.

Back by popular demand, the Town of Cochrane is once again encouraging residents to harvest surplus fruit from their yards and drop it off to help reduce wildlife attractants and support local causes.

“The Community Tree Fruit Round-Up made an incredible impact in its first year,” said Trish Kluane, Manager of Parks and Open Spaces. “Residents came together not only to reduce wildlife attractants but also to support local food banks and wildlife rehabilitation efforts. We’re excited to build on this success and make an even greater difference in our community this year.”

Residents’ fruit collections may fall in one of the following categories:

  • Fallen fruit will support injured and orphaned wildlife at the Cochrane Ecological Institute.
  • Freshly picked fruit will be shared with local food security organizations, including:
    • Cochrane Food Bank
    • Îyâhrhe Nakoda Food Bank
    • Helping Hands food sheds
  • Overripe or mushy fruit can go in your green bin for composting.

The series of drop-off events will be held from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. on August 23, September 6, 13 and 20 at the Town of Cochrane Lagoon (141 Bow Bend Way).

Volunteers will be on-site to assist and ensure donations are properly sorted.
