Town of Cochrane CAO Julian deCocq updated council on the progress of the town’s 2013 Strategic Plan Oct. 15, an overall endeavour that combines the plan with four priorities established by council – recreation and culture development, community connectivity, economic development and public engagement.
Having developed a business plan to tackle these goals, administration targeted several key result areas to focus upon in an effort to achieve council’s list of priorities.
Some of the highlights of the Strategic Plan’s quarterly report included progress made on the development of Riverfront Park, which is slated to begin phase one of construction this month.
A new design for the park was developed in response to the June floods; public input was also taken into consideration.
Centre Avenue and development of the Quarry site has progressed as well.
The next phase of the Centre Ave. extension – an at-grade CPR crossing connecting Main and Railway Street – is expected to be complete sometime late fall.
Land acquisition for a new RCMP station is currently underway, with a design planned to be complete following the determination of a location.
The town has also worked on bettering its communications, including developing a new website, which is slated to launch sometime in November.
The new site will integrate the town’s public engagement brand Let’s Talk Cochrane to provide opportunities for residents to get involved in municipal issues.
