The Rocky View County budget is open for critique.
Residents have until April 12 to provide their feedback on the proposed 2013 budget released online at www.rockyview.ca
“We’ve worked hard to make this budget as clear as possible to encourage residents to provide us with feedback,” said Kent Robinson, general manager of corporate services.
“We want people to tell us if we have the priorities right and if we are meeting their service expectations.”
The budget includes $37.5 million in capital projects down from $64.7 in 2012.
The difference is largely due to the Conrich water supply project, a $25.2 million undertaking started this year.
A substantial portion of it has been completed, making this year’s capital costs lower.
The budget includes new and improved roads, water projects and other county infrastructure. Some projects include the East Balzac Water Infrastructure Project, Bragg Creek Waste Water Treatment System, Pinebrook Lift Station Bypass, Bragg Creek Water Treatment Plant and distribution main.
Operational spending is just under $136 million an increase of less than one per cent from 2012. This budget covers everything from snow plowing to agricultural programs.
Operational funds will go towards conducting a county-wide census, the upcoming municipal election, a new communications strategy, the completion of the County Plan, four new peace officers, one new RCMP enhanced position, debt repayment and road maintenance.
People can view the budget online or pick up a copy from the County office.
Feedback can be directed to [email protected] Comments will be used in preparation for budget finalization by County council at a public meeting April 30.
