Since its beginnings, Cochrane’s largest retail development has persisted under a shroud of mystery as to which name brand stores will ultimately settle in the community’s prime downtown location.
With Sobey’s grocery store thus far being the only retailer to officially announce its imminent presence on the Quarry site, several others have yet to divulge their identity.
“Our policy here is that we don’t let the cat out of the bag, per say, because we leave that up to the retailers,” said Nathan Boskers, an engineer with Springwood Developments, which is developing the land. “They’re very thoughtful on when they announce when they’re coming.”
Although he could not officially confirm that Wal-Mart will be one of those retailers eventually opening their doors for business, Boskers did disclose that they ‘anticipate that it will be.’
Boskers also said that Springwood could verify that other businesses have agreed to open a store on the Quarry site, but that they could not reveal which businesses those were. Other companies remain in the negotiation process.
“We anticipate building more buildings in 2013,” Boskers added. “There’s another one by Sobey’s that’s (currently) under construction.”
Boskers said that, like any development, there are hurdles to clear, but that overall, the Quarry site is progressing like they had hoped.
“Everything’s going well,” he said, “there’s always bumps, but we’re excited, we’re happy and we’re looking forward to doing a bunch of stuff this year and following years.”
